DC Universe Online play now FREE - to include free game

I just checked the PSN and am in the process of the FREE 18 gig download of DC Universe Online for PS3. The game no longer has a monthly fee to play, unless you want to gain access to the Premium and Legendary online modes. Otherwise, FREE with full blown access. The legendary mode does has what looks to be neat options but nothing required for a not very serious player like myself.

The game is a free download and has three levels of online play:

Free Access: New players now have access to the base game content in DC Universe Online, including Gotham City, Metropolis, and all current raids and alerts outside of DLC packs. Free Access provides players with the ability to create two characters, join a League and many other benefits. Free level players can also purchase DLC packs, additional character slots, and more in-game.

Premium Access: Any player who has spent at least $5 USD (including former paid subscribers and new players who have purchased $5 of in-game items) qualifies for the Premium Access level. Premium level players have more benefits available to them than the Free level player, including additional character slots, additional inventory slots, and higher cash limits. DLC packs, additional character slots, and more can be purchased in-game. All previous subscribers are granted Premium Access automatically.

Legendary Access: Legendary Access provides the most content, features and benefits of the three access levels. Loaded with enhanced features, Legendary Access is available for a $14.99 USD monthly fee (multi-month discounts are available) and includes access to all DLC packs at no cost, more than 16 character slots, over 60 inventory slots, the ability to form Leagues, and many other benefits

I have yet to get online and go at it but the download is going well so far (unless I do not have the required 18 gigs of HD space) and while it requires a lot of HD space, it may be worth it for a free game.

Yep been playing again for the first time since April, you get an awful lot as a f2p player. A VERY fair f2p model.

Great fun to run around metropolis and gotham again.

I was thinking about trying it out on PC, but maybe I'll go the PS3 route... 18 gigs sounds like a big download, though.

120,000 new players in the few days its been f2p. But not they are having server issues and you generally have a good queue to get in and then some freezes! Hope they sort it out soon.

I DLed my copy overnight but I had to clear up A LOT of space to do so (60 gig PS3).

The server issues are being addressed by the DCUO crew and with something like this free and free to play, it does not surprise me. I am putting off playing it right now as character generation appears to be as time consuming as the download, lol.

That sounds awful! I just worry about my bandwidth when it come to big downloads like that. I already eat up a pretty big chunk between all the streaming services I use. I'm not sure how anal Charter is going to get if I start approaching the 250GB cap they have in place. I just about hit it last month.

As for the game, how well does it work with Playstation controls? Do you need a keyboard or is the controller enough?

I got on pretty quickly. I walked away and found myself at spot 302 and then went in and it was game on.

The control interface is very sweet and I spent hours playing, exploring and trying to figure everything out, finding most of it to be intuitive.

I leveled from 1 to 6 in a matter of a few hours, having fun the entire way and judging from my accompanying players who joined the Batman hub, I was not the only one who had a Batman-ish outfit.

Bottom line, the game is pretty damn fun... but not at $14.99 a month when this does me just fine.

It's good fun. I couldn't justify subscribing as there just isnt enough content for it. Server issues a bit better now?

When I saw this post a week ago I got very excited and downloaded it. Now I have a level 17 character. I love this game! It's really fun to just fly around and explore.

Level 15 player here.. Star z is my name. I have a Superman type character.

BUT.. I was able to design a Solar and Bloodshot and they looked pretty dang good!

Also!!!!---- Check out the VALIANT style mask that they have. Its a Shadowman mask for sure and its called the VALIANT mask!! LOL Its great!!!

My brother and I have been workign cooperatively o work on all of the free quests.

No complaints at all.. love the game.. LOVE the price!! How can they do this???
