What Valiant comics should every fan own?
Just curious what everyone thinks are the best Valiant comics that every fan should own? Currently I own every Eternal Warrior, Bloodshot, most of the first issues of each comic and all of the Unity books.

Everything. You must, at some point, own a copy of everything. Then, you must sell it all to me for a penny an issue, and cover the shipping costs.

Re: What Valiant comics should every fan own?
Awesome starts. Glad to see quantum and woody on there. I would add the TPBs for completion sake, but I would also put SOLAR 1-11, and Magnus 1-8 on there, along with Rai 1-5. I still think Harbinger 1-7 hasn't aged well, but the story arc is excellent. They are all brilliant stories. If pushed, I would also suggest Acclaim Shadowman 16-20, and Man of the atom limited.Elveen wrote:geocarr wrote:Archer & Armstrong #0-12 (The Barry Windsor-Smith run)

All of the books until shortly after Unity are great reads, I particularly enjoyed the future books like Magnus, Rai and Solar.

I think any of the gold covers are good to add to this list.

Re: What Valiant comics should every fan own?
My first Valiant was X-O #20. I started after Unity. I liked the next year to year and a half of Valiants. X-O, Solar, Shadowman. I kinda liked The Visitor and was excited when Secret Weapons came out. An Avengers or JLA type Valiant team! Well not really. I thought this was still a fun time for Valiant!
Reading these posts it seems that people love the pre-Unity books. I got some of them years later, but not Archer and Armstrong. Barry Windsor Smith did 12 issues? I must own them now!

I know of a store that just might have some A&A. I'm going tomorrow. I love BWS work. If you've ever read his Storyteller you know how great his writing is and how beautiful his art is!

Re: What Valiant comics should every fan own?
Honestly, here's my real list:
XO: 0-43
All of Eternal Warrior, Bloodshot and Archer & Armstrong
Everything Unity and pre unity, as mentioned before
All of Shadowman.
Magnus through issue 48.
All of Rai.
Solar through about issue 30.
For the Acclaim stuff, I'd agree with Q&W, but I'd say to try all of Shadowman, because the power of the changes late in that run work best when you've seen where the series is coming from. I'd also suggest hunting down that version of Armorines, as well, as it is quite a beauty of a package. Great script and tremendous art.

I was one of the ones that enjoyed the earlier issues of SW, never found Ninjak a strong enough deal to warrant his own title and who thought that post-Chaos Effect, Turok became one of the better books the company put out, after having been a pretty bland title beforehand.llkeithll wrote:Whats anyone think of Turok Dinosaur Hunter, Ninjak, or Secret Weapons?

Re: What Valiant comics should every fan own?
It was a company-wide crossover in 1994 that, for me, almost, but not quite, worked out. I think the intention was to clear some of the remaining Shooter-continuity, and explain some of the less scientific aspects of the VU. It's a noble failure, and some books came out of it stronger, such as Turok.llkeithll wrote:What was Chaos Effect?xodacia81 wrote:I was one of the ones that enjoyed the earlier issues of SW, never found Ninjak a strong enough deal to warrant his own title and who thought that post-Chaos Effect, Turok became one of the better books the company put out, after having been a pretty bland title beforehand.llkeithll wrote:Whats anyone think of Turok Dinosaur Hunter, Ninjak, or Secret Weapons?

How many books did it include? Are they easy to find?

Re: What Valiant comics should every fan own?
Fairly easy to find, unless you want the incentive versions. There was pretty much one book, maybe two, per series. I am not looking it up right now. IIRC, the "series" itself was 2 parts, Alpha...and Omega. There might have been a 3rd.llkeithll wrote:How many books did it include? Are they easy to find?

So if I pick up a Chaos Effect Alpha and Omega I would have the "series"?

Re: What Valiant comics should every fan own?
It wouldn't mean anything because the "even" isn't about a plotline as much as it is a series of wierd happenings told in 4 groups of books.llkeithll wrote:So if I pick up a Chaos Effect Alpha and Omega I would have the "series"?
