What he said. Also....Bart Sears was just the man in those days. I remember when the "Wittman" that did all the early Wizard covers was revealed to be Sears. Pretty cool. Also, his first run on X-O Manowar was a lot of people's first exposure to Valiant and he's remembered fondly as a result.Crow331 wrote:He was one of the original artists on X-O Manowar back in the 90's and created, arguably, one of the best covers Valiant ever did, X-O Manowar #14KXXX wrote:This is where you guys get to feel cool explaining the significance of this...ready? The regular cover will be $3.99. We don't know which are incentives and at what ratios yet. Probably a 1:50 at least.nonplayer wrote:Omg amazing news thank you Valiant and wecome back Bart:-)Crow331 wrote:He was one of the original artists on X-O Manowar back in the 90's and created, arguably, one of the best covers Valiant ever did, X-O Manowar #14KXXX wrote:This is where you guys get to feel cool explaining the significance of this...ready? Re: BART SEARS RETURNS TO VALIANT!!!
I have to admit I found Sears's earlier work more appealing, I think some of his stuff kind of went off the rails later on. I haven't seen anything from him in a long time and I am looking forward to seeing it, owning it will be likely nigh impossible
I kind of feel the same way about Hitch, I used to love his stuff but then it just got weird...way too many legs akimbo

Yeah, when Bart did that Warlord series at DC a few years back I thought it was just awful. Really rough & sketchy, like he was imitating Frank Miller & not succeeding.hawkeyeps wrote:I have to admit I found Sears's earlier work more appealing, I think some of his stuff kind of went off the rails later on. But someone around here posted a commissioned pin-up drawing of old/new XO side by side by Sears in the last year or so and that was a fantastic piece. I'm thinking he'll do a great pic for this...

Yeah, its a cover, not full-fledged interiors, so I am sure he will knock it out of the park.
I was extremely disappointed in the cover Neal Adams produced, though, so you never know.

Yeah, Bart can really put out some nice work, but he can also get a bit carried away with things. X-O #14 is a really good example of his best work for Valiant. The artwork for issue #50 and the issues he did after that were just way over the top.

Re: BART SEARS RETURNS TO VALIANT!!!
I totally agree with this point. I really like the concept of Sears working on X-O again, and X-O #14 15 are 2 of my favourite issues of X-O VH1. However, the later issues were very Image-esque and too 'art focused' (ie crap). I'd like to think that V-Ditti would keep things on track these days if Sears were to return.Daniel Jackson wrote:Yeah, Bart can really put out some nice work, but he can also get a bit carried away with things. That said, I really enjoy the current art teams on the book so maybe the Sears thing is just me being nostalgic!

Hmmm, I wonder if BWS is in Valiants future.

I was never a big fan of Bart Sears and his dimpled chins and long, stringy hair always parted in the middle.

Re: BART SEARS RETURNS TO VALIANT!!!
As long as it is drawn in the early Bart Sears style. Anybody here who read his Captain America and Falcon series with Priest in the early 2000s? I don't want that Bart? He basically killed that series, Joe Bennett came in too late to save the title.
