New guy
Hello everybody!
So new here obviously but have been lurking for awhile now. Cool place!
Anywho, been into comics since I found my older brother's collection of old DC war comics and early marvel G.I. Joe's. I didn't really get into collecting monthly until Jim Lee's X-Men #1 (and yes I had all the covers) which led me to Liefield, McFarland etc. Of course I then followed them to Image and the death of Superman got me into DC (which has been my favorite of the big 2 ever since). Then Deathmate happend and I found Valiant. Don't hit me but I only got it for the Image artists but all their delays and the superior Valiant writing converted me and I dropped Image not long after.
I didn't collect alot of Valiant as back issues were expensive and hard to find at that time but I did get several titles, notably X-O, Ninjak, Turok and Shadowman (Aerosmith was my favorite band during that time so Shadowman won big points with me lol) So I never read unity or many of the "classic" books. But I loved what I read of the universe until I faded out of comics and saw with great sadness the death of VH1.
The new 52 pulled me back into comics but it has not held my interest very well and then I heard of the Valiant relaunch and had a good friend highly recommend it. Now I have every book of this new Valiant and love it so much I don't even care to follow the new52 much anymore. I know the circumstances are different but this is how you do a rebeoot/relaunch right!
Looking forward to many years of this new Valiant and discussions of it!

Welcome!
That's one of the best Deathmate stories I've ever heard.
I only bought Deathmate because of Image, but the Valiant side was SO much better that I dropped Image!

Re: New guy
Thanks guys!
I still have a hard time believing people when they tell me Image is a source of smart, well written books these days.
lol it's so true. I was a teenager only caring for the art and was like "ew, this isn't lee, liefield or silversti but it's image characters so I will read it. Wait, this writing makes sense, is pretty good with some really cool characters and this art, while not flashy clearly conveys the action. And I am not having to wait 6 months between books!"greg wrote:

Re: New guy
The thing is, Image and Valiant both failed in the 1990s.LuBu wrote:Thanks guys!

Valiant failed because Acclaim bought them and tried to turn them into Image.
Image failed because the kind of art and "stories" that were successful stopped working.
Image never closed its doors, but it did give up on what wasn't working anymore.
Valiant closed its doors, but now they're open again, doing what worked the first time.
Image and Valiant both learned from their failures, and both are better off today.

Re: New guy
That is what I want to hear about Valiant, my fear when I heard of the relaunch is that they would only last a year or two and then go away again. But from everything I have read so far it sounds like management knows what it is doing and knows what doomed valiant the last time around.

They happen to be my favourite two publishers now.

I hear that. I've never been really a fan of anything Image until this year. Now I think they're really great.Chiclo wrote: How times have changed. You could not get away with saying that around here 5 years ago.

Inside word I got (and the word is good) is that if Valiant doesn't start taking off big time after FCBD 2013 with movie options going forward they may go the way of Dark Horse's failed Gold Key relaunch...

Or ANYWHERE twenty years ago. I still remember Deathmate being announced, and thinking, "who thought this was a good idea?Chiclo wrote:How times have changed.
