Great interview with Dinesh plus movie info
Some great info from our fearless leader
Sounds like Bloodshot is closest to reality with the announcement of Mathew Vaughn
And you know the 5th property that he didn't announce was in development has to be XO
Really fantastic to see a true fan of valiant as the owner - you can feel the passion and enthusiasm every time he is interviewed. gives me great hope that the quality of these books will continue to be high and hopefully when movies do come out they will reflect what makes these comics greatValiant CEO and chief creative officer Dinesh Shamdasani had a long discussion about comics, his own experience as a fan and all things Valiant. This is a long one and a good one, so grab a coffee sit back and give it a watch if you want to know what it takes to run the most successful relaunch in comics!

That was very interesting, thanks for putting that link up.
Wow I had no idea about the movie possibilities, very excited, yes X-O would be an outstanding movie, any chance of a sixth movie, Eternal Warrior anybody
.
It is so reassuring to see that Dinesh is a fan, please excuse my lack of knowledge of the Valiant movers and shakers, but this interview has left me with a heap of respect for this man, well done.

Great interview! I enjoyed it very much. Thanks!

Accurate thread title is accurate. I had no idea there was a Archer and Armstrong movie in the works or that Bloodshot had Vaughn attached and was already so far along! That's CRAZY exciting!

If you ask me, Dino is the best thing about VEI. He was a member here before he became the VEI CCO/CEO. His active period was a little before my time but you can get an idea of what a cool guy he is by reading some of his old posts. He is still very accessible to members of this board, and I have had many interchanges with him via PM. He's really the best CEO there could be. He is truly a fan of the characters first/CEO second. He's steering this ship well.Peter wrote:That was very interesting, thanks for putting that link up.

Vaughn is a nice choice too - all the movies that I have seen from him (Xmen: first class, Stardust, Layer cake, Kick *SQUEE*) have been quality films
The fact that he made a successful rated R comic movie like Kick *SQUEE* that was both violent and smart gives me confidence that Bloodshot will be the smartly written, bloodbath action movie that it should be.

Good interview. Glad to hear some updates on the film side of things. Sounds like there could be a Rai announcement for next summer. There was some other good nuggets in here that I can't wait to see fleshed out.

Re: Great interview with Dinesh plus movie info
Is that what he meant? I thought he was just talking ABOUT the Unity title itself. Maybe the interview was done before the big reveal of Unity as the newest title? Because he mentioned Q&W and EW as the 2 titles this year, and then something else coming at the end of the year. We now know that this IS the Unity title, right?swtor1091 wrote:So possibly a new title spinning out of unity this winter sometime.... Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Re: Great interview with Dinesh plus movie info
Oh maybe... He did say he couldn't talk about unity.... Maybe I'm wrong. I'll have to go back and watch the video at a later time but didn't he say, "we have a new tittle around the time of unity" again could be wrong I watched it while other things were going on haha I'm guiltyPhoenix8008 wrote:Is that what he meant? Loved the comment that there are 26 to 28 seeds for future storylines found in that first issue of X-O

i also think the longterm plan for valiant is of course the successful marvel way: building up great characters and storylines which can be turned into movies. they say they're a comic publisher first and foremost and i think it's a clever thing to keep the understatement, but i can't see how all the legal trouble, financial investment and recruiting(peter cuneo!) would make any sense without the movie perspective.
dinesh and jason are playing it quite clever.

One thing I've noticed through listening to many of Dinesh's interviews is his obvious love for Magnus
If there is any possibility of bringing back the GK3 he will find it
I'm not saying its any time soon
But I have a feeling it's just a matter of time....

Re: Great interview with Dinesh plus movie info
I'll second that. If he was just some investor that bought the IP, my confidence would be only a quarter of what it is presently. Dino is invested emotionally, and that's way more important.lorddunlow wrote:If you ask me, Dino is the best thing about VEI.
Having watched the great interview, I was struck by the way Dinesh continually lays his thumb across his lips as he's thinking and speaking. Kinda like this guy.

This is really good to hear, someone who is emotionally invested with these characters

I am catching up with how things are organised but I'm starting to realise that the whole reason Valiant is producing just outstanding work is because of people like Dinesh.
Really looking forward to the next year of stories

They'd be crazy not to pursue movies. If they can make movies with these properties and they have any where near the level of success of the Marvel franchise, it will mean a lot of money pouring into the company and a better chance of the comic line surviving long term.
I've got no doubt that Dinesh intends for there to always be a comic line. He's too much of a fanboy himself to think otherwise.

As much as I'd love to see them the Gold Key properties, I think they'd be too much of a headache unless they could buy them outright. They've got total control right now and if it was me I wouldn't want to introduce another party into the mix.

Re: Great interview with Dinesh plus movie info
I would think a Valiant movie would only need to reach the level of success of something like Chronicle (which was a Harbinger rip off) for it to be a very good money making venture for Valiant. That movie made over 60 million. A Harbinger movie probably would cost more to make then that movie (if done right) ... but if it made close to 100 million at the box office. I think that would be awesome ... and we can pop the champagne bottles .
Kick *SQUEE* made 50 million for its first movie ... and they made a sequel for it. Bloodshot could have a similar budget and appeal to that movie (over the top violence, smart storytelling) and be very successful and have sequel possibilities.
And I think no matter what - Comics will always come first for Dinesh and Valiant. Great comics are the fuel for future movies. If Valiant is no longer creating great comics why would a movie studio bother taking a chance on making a Valiant movie?
