Too bad there's been a rash of "common book" slabbings lately...
and I'm not talking about Rai 0 either ...
I'm talking about books like Archer 21, Ninjak 14, and Geomancer 7.
(And why are people continually slabbing Turok 1? Too make them sink into the ocean easier?)
What's up with that?

Those are the actual numbers for books graded between 12/16/04 and 2/9/05.dino wrote:The site's search is pretty cool, seems 500+ valiant books were slabbed in the last 3 months. It claims 20 Magnus and 15 Harbinger books but then says that 31 Harbinger Pinks were slabbed....
Any idea if these numbers are for screened or just for graded books?
So... yes, 31 new Harbinger Pinks have been slabbed in two months.
I believe that Valiant was #4 in last month's list...
so #3 this month would be a climb...
overall, though, Valiant is only #9 as far as publisher submissions go...
http://www.gregholland.com/cgc/customcounts.asp?t=p
... and that's less than 1% of the CGC books out there.

Holy Guacamole!!!
I'd better get ready to sell!!!
The only way that this might be good is that I may be able to complete my 9.8 run of BWS A&As cheap!!
I know the LCSs around here have been slabbing crap like Turok 2, 3, X-0 #0 and other crap for a while. It's going to drive them out of business eventually. They are just in too much of a CGC inspired awe to realize it.

That sounds like good news to me! Picking up common 9.8s for pennies - tell 'em to keep slabbing them!

Hey Greg,
I'm pretty sure it's been requested before, but would it be a huge pain in the neck to make some type of Valiant CGC inventory thingy. That way, we could find out what we board members own in the way of slabbed Valiants compared to what is actually out there? Nothing elaborate, mind you.

Actually, I think I have some Dr. Solar Gold Key books somewhere...400yrs wrote:Well, you know own one pretty X-men 22!!!![]()
If you get an urge to purge your comic collection of everything non-Valiant, let me know and I'll take it off your hands.
but I doubt if many of them would be above about a 5.0.
I'm thinking of having my Four Color #596 re-graded,
since I found out it was graded in the December of 2000.
I think CGC was much more "strict" on the golden age back then.

That's what they say. It's a gamble though. On the other hand you've got a great opportunity to take that gamble gratis right now.greg wrote: I'm thinking of having my Four Color #596 re-graded,

Isnt that book already the highest graded copy? Do you really need to get it regraded right now?greg wrote:Actually, I think I have some Dr. Solar Gold Key books somewhere...400yrs wrote:Well, you know own one pretty X-men 22!!!![]()

I guess if it isnt the highest copy grade away, but I would wait if it is the highest graded copy...

Alrighty then...Reslab...Do you think that a pressing could get the book to be slightly higher? I guess that you can contact matt or susan with the graders notes and see if you could pick up a point or 2...that along with the now more lenient grading on goldens would probably put you in the top spot again...maye even into the NM area...greg wrote:It was the highest graded copy... tied with another book at CGC 8.5.DawgPhan wrote:Isnt that book already the highest graded copy? Right now, I'm not a fan of pressing... seems like restoration to me...DawgPhan wrote:Alrighty then...Reslab...Do you think that a pressing could get the book to be slightly higher? even though I can see a big difference between pressing without disassembly,
and pressing with disassembly.

Yeah I can see that. I think that with full disclosure it is fine. The only problem with non-disasembly pressing is the inability to detect it. If no one can detect it there will never be discolsure of it. Now if you wanted to get this book pressed because you want your copy to look as good as it can then I see nothing wrong with that...of course this is a little OT. I doubt that we will get the pressing debates on here like we get on cgc.
If I was buying a high dollar book I would like to know if it was pressed, but other than that it doesnt really bother me.
But even with a resub you might give the 9.0 a run for its money..
