I thought it might be interesting to have a thread about CGC prices on Ebay. Seeing how some are getting very high.

Crazy stuff, but fun to watch. I really need to go over some of my books with a loop and submit some.
Anyone have a link handy about submitting books, the costs, the turn-around times? I imgine books have to be submitted through a 3rd party who is a partner or has an account with CGC, huh? Did I hear something about a second grading company, that isn't as popular?

Yeah CGG is supposed to be a little cheaper, ALOT faster, and maybe a little less strict(depending on who you ask)....they are cheaper and faster though...right now I think that it might cost $15 for grading on valiants for the standard speed...then you have to pay for shipping to and fro so that is some more money...I would think that you would spend atleast $25 getting a book graded....also you get a discount if you ubmit through heritage or metropolis....maybe a couple of other places...R Daneel wrote:Crazy stuff, but fun to watch. If anyone is considering using CGG instead of CGC...
they might want to learn more about them here:
http://boards.collectors-society.com/sh ... ber=427521
I'm not "for" or "against" CGG... but I don't want people to be uninformed.

Disturbing
Thanks for the info Greg. Very disturbing to know the danger that lurks out there.
No to mention if you scroll down farther, right next to the image of Galactus, there is another link that is... enlightening. I won't post the link because I don't want to be perceived as attacking anyone.
I'm not making any judgements either, but I guess we all need to keep our heads up and be careful.

WTF?
It's a shame that you can't be sure what books you are actually getting anymore.
Call me old fashioned, but I still read the just for the story and art. Crazy, I know, but if I had the $ that is being shelled out on books that are the same as the ones I have in my long boxes, I'd spend it paying bills, investing in my retirement or something.
No, my copies aren't perfect, but there is one thing that I can do with mine that someone who has a graded copy of a book can - READ IT.
However, it may just be sour grapes on my part because I don't have the $ to put out on the books either

I've used CGG in the past & they were great. Cheaper, faster, & as for the grading.... I actually think they are stricter graders than CGC. I've compared my CGC grades with CGG grades, & CGG definately graded with more scrutiny than CGC.DawgPhan wrote:Yeah CGG is supposed to be a little cheaper, ALOT faster, and maybe a little less strict(depending on who you ask)....they are cheaper and faster though...right now I think that it might cost $15 for grading on valiants for the standard speed...then you have to pay for shipping to and fro so that is some more money...I would think that you would spend atleast $25 getting a book graded....also you get a discount if you ubmit through heritage or metropolis....maybe a couple of other places...R Daneel wrote:Crazy stuff, but fun to watch. The one donwnfall of using CGG is that they do not get the prices on eBay that CGC does. CGC also has a much more attractive casing.

You cannot argue with credentials. CGC is a fully owned subsidiary of the same company that also owns the #2 most respected name in coin grading since 1986: NGC. They know what they're doing, they have a RIDICULOUS insurance, security, and handling policy, and they are pros.
Even then, they make mistakes. In 2002, Lange's Sports offered a Daredevil #4 in blue label VG 4.0, with an ad page missing.
What's wrong with the above...?
It wasn't (A) Qualified, or (B) Fair or worse. One or the other. There was a page missing, which was NOTED on the label. Soooo...how many of those are out there that AREN'T? If CGC can make such an obvious and glaring error....what about the not so obvious ones?
Still....it's likely a 1 in 10,000 event, sooo...
With that in mind...who is CGG? What are their creds? Who can vouch for them, professionally?

I think a lot of it also has to do with who comes along first with a service. I know CGC also grades sports cards as SCG, but for a long time they were second fiddle to PSA, who were I believe the first card graders out there. I wonder if CGG had come along first, if they would be considered the top line of grading comics.
