Those are nice, but if you really want to make it interesting, the rule should be:
No Zenescope books
No PGX books
No books from 2000 to present
No chromium cover books
That normally rules out 90%+ of the 9.9 and 10 books, but half of yours are still qualified.

Even without those caveats the population is still a smaller and interesting niche to look at. And chromium cover books can still be flawed! Scratches especially....greg wrote:Those are nice, but if you really want to make it interesting, the rule should be:

On that note, don't you have a 9.9 Turok #1?

True, but chromium cover books get the 9.9 label far more often than their paper counterparts. Square-bound books also get 9.9+ often (JLA 2003 mini-series, Batman: Killing Joke, Vengeance of Bane, etc.).IMJ wrote:Even without those caveats the population is still a smaller and interesting niche to look at. Didn't you also pickup an Invincible 9.9 (low number, maybe issue 17) for fairly cheap on ebay? I remember because I was thinking about buying, but clearly I didn't.greg wrote: After the Rai #0, they're all pretty disappointing.

The only other "old label" CGC 10.0 for Valiant:

All other CGC 10 for Valiant are the large "10" on the left side of the label. This and the Rai #0 were the first two ever graded (currently 45,000+ Valiant books are CGC slabbed).

Is old label respected more than newer labels?

Re: Truly Mint Slabs [9.9 or 10's Only] | NO Zenoscope Welco
Not really, just more of an oddity, since CGC only used the tiny grade numbers for a couple of years at the beginning. If there can be such a thing as "CGC nostalgia" then the old label tiny numbers would be what that nostalgia looks like. For Valiant books, the oldest CGC labels are actually red labels with tiny numbers, then blue labels with tiny numbers, then they moved on to the large CGC grade on the left side.StarBrand wrote:Is old label respected more than newer labels?
I think there were only about 110 CGC red label Valiant books graded before they switched to CGC blue label tiny grade labels.
There were only 660 CGC blue label tiny grade Valiant books graded before they switched to CGC blue label large grades.
The "rarest" CGC label related to Valiant books is the tiny grade green label, since they only graded about 20 of those. The green label could have been for a signature on the cover, or for a missing coupon.
Since there are now 45,000+ Valiant books that have been CGC graded, the tiny grade CGC labels are a very tiny part of the CGC Valiant history, getting smaller all the time... but if you're a Valiant and CGC collector, then they're a fun little side hobby with very few still around.

It's possible that lower grade books (especially Golden or Silver Age) in the tiny grade blue labels could be significantly improved with professional cleaning and pressing (non-restoration style), but they'll get regraded with the large grade current label style, so the number of surviving tiny grade labels is constantly shrinking due to cracked out books and resubmissions.

And the thing is that with 10s and 9.9s you don't want to have the book cracked and re-slabbed basically ever. Too many horror stories about CGC re-slabbing coming back in lesser grades - especially when the threshold to change a 10.0 or a 9.9 is basically any disfigurement of the book at all whatsoever! It's just not worth it.
There's an Invincible #1 9.9 on the bay right now actually....greg wrote:Yep, number 15.possumgrease wrote:Didn't you also pickup an Invincible 9.9 (low number, maybe issue 17) for fairly cheap on ebay? If it's the Larry's Edition, there are several. All copies were sent to the same retailer. They didn't get distributed like normal comics. That's why I said...IMJ wrote:And the thing is that with 10s and 9.9s you don't want to have the book cracked and re-slabbed basically ever.
