Another Harbinger # 0 CGCed
Hey guys,
Just wanted to put out the general announcement that I sent my Harby #0 Pink to CGC the other week. I know Greg likes to track these things.
Yes, I generally speak ill of CGC and dislike the idea, but if my #0 comes back with a high enough grade, I intend to resell it for some nice cash. Any idea what a Harby #0 is going for in the low 9 range? I'm expecting it to come back between 9.2 and 9.4

Maybe less. A 8.0 went for like $30 or $39 to a board member a little while back. 9.4s haven't been selling well - maybe $50 max. For big bucks on that book, you need the 9.8 and even that book at that grade isn't selling like it used to. There are too many high grade copies of the book out there. Who knows what the summer holds, though.DawgPhan wrote:Harby pink in 9.2...maybe $40 or something like that...

If it were me, I wouldn't send it unless I thought it would come back 9.8. The book seems to be selling better raw than slabbed at 9.4 or less - even 9.6 soemtimes too.

Wait....wait...personality conflicts??shaxper wrote:Always nice to be remembered here, Zeph. Thanks for the greeting
I do miss this place, but some personality conflicts with another member keep me from spending too much time here. Still, I love checking in from time to time.
....and it's not with ME???
No way.
Anyhoo, I owe you an Infinity Gauntlet run! I just can't find 4-6 for $1. Argh!

Woah, I'd completely forgotten about that! You know, I just recently picked up the full run of Silver Surfer 2nd series, as per your old request. I'm hoping that starting from the begining will give me a new appreciation for Thanos and the events leading up to the Infinity Gauntlet.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote: Anyhoo, I owe you an Infinity Gauntlet run! You SERIOUSLY could start from #34 and not miss a thing. #1-33 is fun, but #34-#50 will be....I predict....the most classic SS series of all.shaxper wrote:Woah, I'd completely forgotten about that! Very respectible grades. Don't listen to the 9.8 hype.shaxper wrote:Got my Harby #0 back from CGC today (6 week turn-around my *SKREE*!). It's a 9.4. Looks like it wasn't even economically beneficial to get the darn thing graded. My Harby #1 also came back as a 9.2. Oh well.

I would concur, but I've been watching the ebay auctions. I don't understand the hype, but it does seem to be affecting market value significantlywhetteon wrote:Very respectible grades. If you are planning on keeping them, there is nothing wrong with those grades. If you are planning on selling, slabbing them just cost you more than it was worth.whetteon wrote:Very respectible grades. Before you submit books again, feel free to ask if we think it's worth it. Could've saved you some $ if you are planning on selling.

Well, what happened was that I had asked back when the Harby #0s were still way in demand, but waited a while before I went to CGC, so my info was out of date by a few months.400yrs wrote:If you are planning on keeping them, there is nothing wrong with those grades. Ouch. Looks nice on the wall in a man-cave! Tape a couple $100 bills to the back of it and you can brag to your friends "it's worth much more than I paid. Absolutely liquid, too.".shaxper wrote:ckb wrote:
The last Harby 0 pink 9.4 I had I think sold for like $35.
I'd be excited about that, except that I paid $180 for it back in 1992 and just paid roughly $20 to CGC it because I thought I might get a fraction of that cost back

Technically though, wouldn't the $100 bills count as a form of payment?

and let us not forget the grading fee Whett

so, the ACTUAL profit is $25.00
-19.00 -adding a calculated shipping charge of $3
= $6.00
as I said, worthless
