Any idea of whether Wizard's publishing the wrong cover of the BS plat was really just an April Fool's Joke? That they actually did know what they were doing when they printed the wrong cover? What do you think?

I would guess wizard printed the wrong one on purpose but "forgot" to put in a disclaimer explaining the differance between the plat and the version they printed.

Seems like a strange thing to "joke about"...
considering there are no printed references to clear up the confusion.
It's not like it was a well-known book and they were just goofing around...

I'm not sure the point of a joke if no one gets it.
