Just read "Solar" #0/"Alpha/Omega"
I believe they're one and the same, right? The origin story?
I was very, very impressed. Probably some of the finest comic writing I've ever read. When I was a kid, back during VH1's heyday, I steered fairly clear of Solar b/c I thought it was too deep for me; I couldn't get my head around it or the big concepts. Today I can, and it's just spectacular stuff. For all the enemies he's made and all the supposed beefs therein, it's still a damn shame Jim Shooter isn't doing some regular writing in the industry today. He was on a whole other plane, back then.
The page with Phil and Erica "outside" reality has some incredible dialogue. Was that when Erica was first "changed," or was she the phantom figure in the reactor in the opening?
I suppose I'm going to have to track down the individual issues now, seeing as there's only a very obscure trade of "Second Death," right? Either way, I'm looking forward to it.
One question:Didn't Warren Ellis work on Solar at one point? What was that? How did it go?

Ellis did work on the character but in it's second form.......VH-2.
It was a one shot called "Man of the Atom" it was in fact one of the better selling EVENT issues they produced. D. Robertson was the penciler on that issue.

Yup, Solar #0 is Solar: Alpha & Omega. Its one story, the origin story and it was serialised in 10 parts throughout Solar #1-10.jsbt wrote:I believe they're one and the same, right? The origin story?
I agree.jsbt wrote:I was very, very impressed. Probably some of the finest comic writing I've ever read.

I think the general concensus is that Erica was the figure in the opening (shes in two panels I think) and this is when she 'changes'.jsbt wrote:The dialogue on that page ties into her motivations for Unity. There was a really good thread about it a while back.
Second Death is a litte hard to find, there is also Frist Strike which collects Solar #5-8. It's probably easier to get the individual issues, and the BWS covers definitly warrant the trouble.jsbt wrote:I suppose I'm going to have to track down the individual issues now, seeing as there's only a very obscure trade of "Second Death," right? Yes he did, during VH2. It was alright. Based on religion. Solar as god...literally.jsbt wrote:One question:Didn't Warren Ellis work on Solar at one point? What was that? How did it go?

It was well written but it's an example of how far VALIANT had fallen.
VALIANT didn't need to be introduced to the material that Ellis presented since it's what lead to the entire universe going off track and becoming a poor man's Silver Age DC.

The only other tp I know of with issues from Solar is the VALIANT Era trade which has issues 9 and 10. Other than that there's the Unity trades that have issues 11 and 12.
Issues 5-8 haven't been collected, at least far as I know.

Something like that would have been found out by now........
a pretty safe bet this doesn't exist.....
If I'm wrong (which I doubt) I'm sorry. Please prove us wrong.....
I've been in this Valiant thing a LONG time like most of us......simply never heard about it.

Sorry, one more question: Can anyone tell me if there is a fact sheet or FAQ out there on what exactly the scope is for Solar's powers? Is he indeed like a god, and if so, what are his limits? How could X-O really take him on? I was just thinking about, say, Solar vs. The Authority or some such nonsense.
