We already made a movie poster.

Speaking of announcements about the movie, did you guys see this one?

I don't want to be negative here and I understand 'mass media' and being in the business to make money but... (sigh) do you think we could have some books on the shelf before we even hear news of a movie ? I mean there was more information in that one press release than ALL the information that has been rationed out in reference to 'books on the shelf'.
HC TPBs with a couple of new pages... got it.
Re-colored pages with some Photoshoppd 'glares and starbursts'... got it.
New comics... got squat.
It took years fo Marvel and DC to finally be able to make good movies based off from GREAT comics. I hope that Valiant does not take years to make good comics based off from their movies.
It just seems backasswards to me at this point. Sorry, I am not in the best moods today but I want that feeling of excitement to walk into my LCS and looking forward to buying books again every Wednesday. And I am not getting that right now. I look forward to Punisher, Walking Dead, and Captain America (so you can imagine how his 'death' is affecting me as well
). So, books by the end of the year... well, I am nervous that these new books will not meet my expectations.
I am not one of those kinds of fans that have an orgasm just because a HC TPB comes out with some flashy coloring (actually the colors seemed a bit off to me, dulled or something) and a few pages of new material. That is not going to do it for me. Why would I jump up and down in excitement for reprinted material. If you are SUCH a fan of these books that a scrap of new material calls for a change in underwear... well, I think a twap on the head is in order
. You are being mislead and falling for the hype (or lack thereof). You... are... a... VALIANT... FAN !!!! You should be asking for more than just 8 pages of new material (that introduced a new major character ??????????????? How much better would that have been if Harada had been doing his thing and then at the last panel there had been his newest 'bad guy' standing there looking all evil ?). Who out there, read through the whole thing, then read the 'new story' and honestly said... 'is that IT ?' I did. (sorry guys) I HONESTLY hope to be eating crow in a year or so but right now... well I guess crow $hit is better than nothing.... wait... no it isnt. I want some books on the shelf to convince me that Valiant is coming back and seeing as how I have been supporting Valiant wherever I go and have been keeping the torch lit for YEARS, I would hope that I would have heard something more than 'books by years end'... instead I got a boatload of information on how a freakin' MOVIE is coming out with ACTUAL quotes from the two movers and shakers within the company. More was said in that article than ever before and it was about a movie instead of the comics that we love.
I'm disappointed. And 8 pages of new material in a HC TPB is not going to satisfy my hunger over the next year (if it is good enough for you... well, I dont want to say it). But we can bet the farm that there will be MUCH discussed about 'the movie' and in the forefront of a few peoples minds.... instead of just making comics and putting that magic back into my hands.
Sorry if you feel that I am being harsh today but I sit here as all of us have for how long now.... tapping my foot.
I just can't wait to see some damn books on the shelves.

Well said, knightt. Something I've wanted to say but didn't want the flack that would come from it by speaking my mind.
I feel doing the film before establish a presence in the comic book market is putting the cart before the horse.
How is the general public going to get excited over a comic book movie of characters they never heard of??
An 8 page story to a big budget movie.
You know what the general pubic will say about this movie???
That it's nothing more that a rip-off of Heros or X-Men.
I wont. Cause I'm one of the 100 people that know it's the other way around.

The frustration comes from that there is more info on this movie then comics.JustCallMeAric wrote:I understand the frustration but it wouldnt suprise me if the books come out first. We're at least 2 years away from the movie. However, they might wait to release the books at the same time as the movie and that would suck.
We have a director but no EIC.

Since there is no EIC, I will step up to the plate and take the job.jedimarley wrote:The frustration comes from that there is more info on this movie then comics.JustCallMeAric wrote:I understand the frustration but it wouldnt suprise me if the books come out first. I agree that we should be getting more information. But, something occurs to me. I know it was a joke, BUT...I'm not sure the posts like EIC are actually unfilled as much as not officially announced yet. The descriptions read like teaser descriptions of particular people, not a "this is what we want" sort of deal. I think they do have some people but for whatever reasons-possibly legal reasons, such as these people might be under contract to another company and have to finish out those deals first before being introduced-can't/haven't yet been announced.
It is not what I am saying IS, but it is what I am saying COULD BE. It is a POSSIBLE answer to why we haven't gotten information regarding this topic. I mean, think about it. In sports, you often see a GM or coach hired while the season is going on, but they have to finish that season first. This is especially true of the NFL where many jobs are filled during the playoffs, but not officially introduced until after a team is eliminated. They are, true, often unofficially announced beforehand but hopefully I made the point. Just something to think about.

What's the point of making Harbinger #42 as a follow-up to whatever happened in Harbinger #41
if the movie is going to be about Harbinger #0-#7?
Hey everyone, here's a crappy story that's unrelated to our big movie news. Enjoy!

I don't want to see a single book on the shelf that doesn't have VISION for the universe behind it.
The idea that they can put something in print RIGHT NOW is crazy.
There's no architect, but we should be seeing some shingles by now?
Are you upset that it's been almost 3 years and there's no new comics? BLAME VIP.
It's been 3 months since VIP was removed from the picture...
in that 3 months, we've got Diamond soliciting two hardcovers,
and Paramount has acquired the rights to Harbinger.
Where would we have been if VIP had flushed themselves into the sewer earlier?

I understand the disappointment so far with the output of VEI, especially after the bankruptcy auction and the excitement that followed. I guess the fact that a couple of our peer fans bought the characters made us feel even better that we would see some "new" issues much sooner. I personally figured we see something "on the shelves" within a year of the auction, but the VIP thing just dragged on.
The timeline is dissappointing, but on the other hand, at least what these guys are trying to do is not half asssed and is laced with quality. The Harby book was well done, and from what I can see it took some major coin to plan and put that website together and launch it with the amount of information about the characters that these guys have included. I think when you're starting from scratch and the goal is to put out great product you'd better take your time and make sure each step along the way is well planned, thought out, and implemented. I think we have to also remember, all the money is pretty much going out right now with just piddles coming back in. If someone was interested in one of the characters and was willing to pay for their film rights, I would think these guys would be pretty receptive to any offers that had cash payment involved after a tough legal battle and the expensed occurred so far.
I totally agree with Chris as far as really having no interest in reprints, I've got plenty of issues of Pre Unity XO if I want to become reacquainted with those issues, even if they include a small amount of new product. I want some meat with my gravy too. All I can say is I will continue to support these guys and give the credit where it's due. Hopefully there will be some sign of new books in the near future. I think VEI knows what we, the hard core fans want, and that is what is fueling my patience.

Great!![]()
What do we want? Valiant to return, bigger and better than ever.
If Paramount being interested isn't one of the BEST THINGS THAT COULD HAPPEN to Valiant,
then some of you guys just need to grab a nice novel and read quietly in a cottage somewhere.
One movie. Just one. Would produce more interest in Valiant than the whole decade of the 1990s.
Depending on who you ask, most comic book movies have sucked.
Two or three of the Batman movies sucked.
The Superman Returns movie left MUCH to be desired.
Incredible Hulk sucked.
Has it hurt ANY of those titles AT ALL?
World War Hulk is a top seller.
Superman is still the #1 comic character known to the world.
Batman movies suck, they start again, and Batman Returns was great!
You don't get anywhere unless you get NEW PEOPLE aware of the universe.
A comic won't do that. 100 comics won't do that.
One movie. That's all it takes. Just one.
But that's not good enough, is it?

People got PAID for the job on the website?
Then... then why did I only get a signed copy of Turok #1?

Preach on, Brother Greg!
Pure and simple: this is a business for VEI. Comics alone won't provide a return on their (substantial) investment. It's going to take movies (and TV shows and merchandise, etc.) to do that.

Comic properties are purchased all the time. Look at Layton's Future comics line he has that in the works. Just because a director is named doesn't mean squat. I wouldn't be suprised if this changes directors Several times before going behind the camera.
Thats just the nature of the game. Paramount buying the rights is BIG.
means they are Seriously interested in the property.
If this current Director does bow out of this project can I please say GET Alex Poyas? He was Great with the Crow and Dark City and the later film reminded me of Harbinger anyways.
