DARK ADVENTURE CON RED CROSS DELUX PRINT SET
http://cgi.ebay.com/Valiant-Dark-Advent ... m153.l1262
I've only seen one other one for sale in the last 2 years. I got #2 of the deluxe set.
more info here
http://www.valiantcomics.com/valiant/va ... .asp?id=50
some discrepancy on how much it was originally sold for and if there were
only 10 deluxe sets or 25. I'm guessing 25 because i know people here who have numbers higher than 10 on the deluxe set's.

I saw that. That ebay seller is the one who made them. I cant justify paying $450 for some stuff a LCS put together. He also has other stuff for sale that he made like black and white posters, programs etc.
My question is if these sets were sold for charity, how he still has them, and why he is selling them to put the money in his pocket.

I just sent this to Lon:
We know he has been taking "leftovers" of the non-color prints and selling them a-la-carte. If he is "manufacturing" color sets as well, I would not be a happy camper.
We will see what he says.As one of the original purchasers of these sets from the offering in CBG in the early 90's, I wanted to state that my color set with HC 0 Gold is numbered out of 25, not out of 10. I could probably dig up the CBG ad which also says the deluxe edition is limited to 25. Please explain the discrepency.

In order for the thing to have any meaning at all, IMO, it has toi have been part of the original 1993 offering. I detailed the purchase of my set for Greg in misc items section...geocarr wrote:Well Rufus, since you're the only person I know who has one, do you mind sharing what you gave for yours? What do you think a fair price is now for one? I can't see $450 but it is a unique item for the completist.

I have never seen a complete deluxe set in the original gold-sealed envelope for sale on the open market. I believe the original price was in the $300 range.

We should find out what the heck is being sold first. While I've never seen an open market sale, I believe there have been a few private sales of "real" original deluxe sets.Fanboy375 wrote:I hear geocarr clicking the buy-it-now button. The auction description seems to be saying that the first 10 out of the 100 sets were "deluxe". Why would the first 10 of the regular edition be deluxe versions when there was a separate set of 25 deluxe editions sold at the same time? So, there are two deluxe editions, one containing 10 sets and one containing 25? That makes no sense.

Ugh, you know, when you read stuff it really makes a difference. As Woog points out, sets 1-10 of the non-deluxe sets are actually "special". This is confirmed by the original letter describing my non-deluxe set seen here:mrwoogieman wrote:The auction description seems to be saying that the first 10 out of the 100 sets were "deluxe". Just adds to the mystique around these sets - the whole thing was a big *SQUEE*. Deluxe non-deluxe sets? Really? Nothing happened as expected for the whole operation.

That's actually a different print set. This appears to be a partial Capital Unity set. You should take an inventory of which prints you got and compare it with someone who has a complete opened set in envelope.jedimarley wrote:Wish I knew this before I purchased this from him.ckb wrote:I just sent this to Lon:

I'm with ya. It seems like #1-10 of the regular group of 100 is the real deal - it has everything each other set type has and more.geocarr wrote:Have at it mon, the BIN button is all yours!!jedimarley wrote:If it is a legit set then the price is not that bad considering how rare they are.
It is strange that Lon is dragging out #2/10/100 15 years later. Like I said earlier, it may be that the whole Red Cross thing at the con was a complete bust and the stuff got shelved. So, I'm sure it's the real #2 of 10 of 100 set. The color Valiant prints are really cool. Do the autographs add anything? $450? I'd say you'd never find another one, except maybe #3-#10 are also unsold in the Dark Adventure pile.

I have set #17.
I've gone through all this with Lon before. There are 25 deluxe sets. The first 10 of the 25 came with the non-Valiant autographed pics. That's the differentiation he's trying to make. So, unless non-Valiant autographed pics made out to another person are important to you then any of the first 25 sets should have the same value for you. To me, this is one of the coolest Valiant items ever made.

Actually, the verbage we are seeing from Lon and the text of the letter from my non-deluxe set says that the first 10 of the non-deluxe 100 have the colored prints, H0 gold, and the non-Valiant autographed pics.Zero wrote:I have set #17.

There's nothing I can see anywhere about the first 10 sets of the 25 deluxe sets having anything special with them.

The coloring done on these is hand done and of the pictures of the colored sets i've seen, each one is slightly different. I don't believe he's manufacturing new colored sets. When you consider all the 'other' stuff included in the set it would be hard. I even think the black and white print sets are cool. I'd almost rather hang them on the wall.
However you look at it these hardly ever come up. It is a lot of mula, but then again there's the hand coloring and there's only 25 sets of 'em. I agree with Zero, it's one of the coolest items i have.

I need to check, but I believe my sheet reads a little different.ckb wrote:Actually, the verbage we are seeing from Lon and the text of the letter from my non-deluxe set says that the first 10 of the non-deluxe 100 have the colored prints, H0 gold, and the non-Valiant autographed pics.Zero wrote:I have set #17.

I have a deluxe, a "artist proof" set, & a non-deluxe set. The deluxe & non-deluxe sets were purchased from a guy on the original board several years before Dark Adventure rereleased them. He bought them at the con. The proof set I bought from Dark Adventure a couple years ago. I'll check my sheets to see how they read.
