switch to Vonage, it's much cheaper than paying a phone bill.

I thought about that, but I live out in the boondocks and my phone line is my only link to the internet (it also hardly ever goes out, unlike my cable did). And my phone is cheaper all around than a mobile phone.

Turning it off and going straight internet won't save me much. I'll still have about the same taxes and surcharges.

I have a question. I noticed that the auction that was donated to CF was bid on with almost reckless abandon, this one currently is a little slower.
Was it because of charity or is did that book more valuable?

(not taking a shot on anyone, I don't know value on these books.)

Yeah, I am. XO's my favorite.
ok thanks for the quick response. good luck on your auctions.
I was considering selling the X-O prject book to help Knightt's CFF effort. I'll check the book when I get home if people are interested.
I would be.
Sorry... I had forgotten I sold it as part of the CFF effort last year.

Because it's a charity.

I'm in the same boat. I'd love to be able to use Vonage or turn the phone off completely, but I'm in a very rural area and to get internet access by itself without going through the phone company would be the same price or more.

And cellphones don't work in my area. All carriers have no signal out here. My family has tried them all. No cable out here either.

On Jul-08-08 at 06:54:02 PDT, seller added the following information:

UPDATE: Insurance may not be available to some places overseas. If you are the winning bidder, please contact me before sending payment because having the item insured may cost significantly more or may not be available at all.

I will be happy to check and make adjustments accordingly.
I just thought I'd go ahead and post this update as I've recently went through a slight education about overseas shipping.

I can get cable, but I never watch TV much anymore anyways. Direct TV or satellite would be better but their internet is way too pricey for what you get.

I hope so too. Work's been short here lately.

I'm going to fix that soon though.
Work and the family is more important than the comics man. I'm sure you'll find something real soon. :thumb:
Ah, it's just that my job has been shorting me out on hours here lately. I'm only getting about 5 to 7 hours average per day. It should start picking up here next week and I can volunteer to work weekends, which of course, I will.
THAT'S the reason for the fire sale? A couple hours being clipped a couple weeks, but you'll be back to normal next week???? Geez, by that statement you sound like your just living outside your means...the reaon I say that is if you were a family living check to check you wouldn't have been able to afford the projects in the first place

Come to Detroit, there's tons of people that would kill just to have a job let alone only get a few hours clipped....

but who am i to say anything, I don't know your total situation, just going by what you wrote there...sorry

More or less.

Nope. I got the means, I just don't care to cash in on some of them. Gotta save for a rainy day you know.

Well, from what I understand of the economy right now and the price of gas, Employers now have to pay MORE to ship their items from overseas, so manufacturing there is quickly becoming more of a financial burden so more and more jobs may be coming back to good ole America.:thumb:

Besides, I don't like the city and I don't like the suburbs. Not enough privacy and/or freedom to do as I please... like taking a wiz off the porch.

Ah... relief..

Sorry?

Sorry?

For what exactly? What was the intention of your post that you might feel so bad about?

There are a lot of things going on right now and reasons that I want to sell my projects, squirrel. On the board, in my life, and NO ONE here is privy to that information.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm just an eBay member selling my property. Property that is mine and mine alone. Not the boards, not yours, or anyone else save me. And the fact that members get upset about it and then wish to dissect my life to figure out why I'm doing what I'm doing is somewhat upsetting.

Now, I'm a nice guy. I may not give away tons of free books or do projects, but I give when I can and I help my friends and fellow board members if I can. But unlike others here, my generosity is not given away at random to just anyone.

Squirrel, I think you're a good guy. I don't have a problem with you. You may have a problem with me, but that doesn't matter. Lot's of people do. I'm used to it. But I don't quite feel like sharing all of my motivations with you or anyone else at this time... or ever. So please forgive me if I'm a little 'stand off-ish'.

Thanks. :|

So, the end result is that there is no "dire need"....someone wants to CHA CHING CHA CHING, LET THAT CASH REGISTER RING!!!!!!...make BIG CASH PROFITS!!!!...on yet ANOTHER project, but this time, the seller is a SKILLED manipulator, and is willing to guilt down anyone who disagrees with him, with a large degree of success, it looks like.

Because that's the end result. Yet another seller cashes in on the community. Yet another seller, who bought a project for a TOKEN AMOUNT, gets to get farrrr more than he paid for it, just because he was "in the right place, at the right time."

No amount of guilt, no amount of protestation, no amount of backhanded insults will change that.

And...who KNOWS what the hell "But unlike others here, my generosity is not given away at random to just anyone." means.... :?

1. "Generosity", by its very nature, does not discriminate between friend and stranger. In fact, the most noble generosity is TO a stranger, because that generosity expects nothing in return. To be generous means to give freely, without expectation of reward, tangible OR intangible, to friend OR stranger alike.

2. Who here just gives things away randomly to total strangers...?

3. Even if someone DID, why does that even matter? See #1.

As far as how "upsetting" it is, I'm afraid that's the price one has to pay to cash out on the community. It's best to suck it up and deal with it, instead of endlessly trying to justify why it's "perfectly ok to sell one's property"....if it's perfectly ok, why the need for such justification....?

This thread is again yet too funny. Who cares :)

If someone has a problem with it either a) don't include them in the next project or b) don't bid on the item.

Problem solved :thumb:

Yet I do like some of the effort put into the above posts, especially the longer ones. Makes for a good mid-afternoon soap opera.

Thanks and can't wait for the next episode
