To be honest, I don't think Shooter really said anything that he hasn't said in previous interviews, at least when it comes to Bob Layton.jedimarley wrote:Please share....Gotta love that VEI made sure they included a disclaimer after the interview...
I was surprised by the stuff about Barry Windsor Smith. The most telling quote is "But I wouldn't want to work with him again."
He also mentioned that "once in the middle of a job, (Windsor-Smith) decided he wanted to be paid more than the rate he'd agreed to. The company couldn't afford it- but we also couldn't afford to lose credibility by failing to deliver Windsor-Smith on a book we'd already solicited."

Shooter's Interview was as expected! Detailed, True and shocking!
The man is honest and I really, truly, respect him for all of his work At Valiant. He doesn't hold back and openly delves into his memory to discribe just how fragile this company was and what it took to create it.
I like the deleted scene, kinda ties it all together but yea, I guess It wasnt very neccessary accept for the fact that archer isnt in the new story without it.
Big props to Jim, Sal & Bob for this collaboration and Many, Many thanks to all of the staff at VEI in making this collaboration happen. I hope we get to see more of this! These 3 hardcovers are a great start and I want you all to know that we all really appreciate the effort.
It's just amazing how many great characters came out of this company.

I recall an interview from him in regards to that. I believe he stated that he paid BWS out of his own pocket (drawing from credit or some such)Brother J wrote:To be honest, I don't think Shooter really said anything that he hasn't said in previous interviews, at least when it comes to Bob Layton.jedimarley wrote:Please share....Gotta love that VEI made sure they included a disclaimer after the interview...

What we need is innovation and even revolution—but not so much in the form of marketing ploys and doohickeys. What is needed is bold creative vision, excellent stories, and brilliant storytelling, in a word, entertainment. -- Jim Shooter

exactly, he used his VISA card to borrow the money, then put it into the Valiant bank account and had the company issue Windsor-Smith a check. This was done "because Valiant couldn't afford to let Windsor-Smith (and the staff, and creators in general) know how fragile and strapped we were."Zaphod wrote: I recall an interview from him in regards to that. Sounds like a great future story to me.KenClarkson4Prez wrote:hey everybody,
first post for me. Glad to see a healthy Valiant community still exists.
A&A were always my number 1 book. The one thing that always bothered me is how quickly Archer went from the angry young man, bent on vengeance, that we saw in the flashback from A&A 0, to the peaceful, level-headed youth of the rest of the series. Could his parents being incarcerated really have illicited such a radical change alone? maybe something ELSE happened to him after arriving back in the U.S. Maybe THAT would make a good future story.
Thoughts?
