CGC press
http://boards.collectors-society.com/sh ... e=0#752316
Well yesterday this little press release poped up..(Its the link in the link) and I first I didnt think that CGC saying that they have run all the thieves out of comic collecting was a great thing. I thought that CGC needs to hire someone to make sure that Steve doesnt just run off at the mouth and say things that he has no way of backing up. Then someone noticed that it was realeased by a PR person, which means that Steve paid someone to write his "quote" about running theives out of the hobby...Well as it turns out at the bottom of the press release there is an email address for the PR person...Well if you go to the domain on the email address, http://www.dawnmortensen.com ,it is a redirect to Colossus Comics...
Basically cgc's press release has a link in it to someone else selling their product. Turns out that Steve met the lady at a Con where she was working for her husband who happens to run CC. Now I dont think that anything shaddy is going on, but just that it reeks of amaetur hour...Just makes you wonder about what other deals CC and CGC might have...
Folks on the cgc board dont think that it is a big deal...what do you guys think?

This isn't the first time questions like this pop up. CGC just have more zealot fans who WILL overlook any wrong doing by them. Now if this was PGX...*cough* *cough*
I'll wait till I hear the official response from Mr. CGC himself, Peter Parker!

You would think that they would get tired of saying "This isnt a big deal."whetteon wrote:This isn't the first time questions like this pop up. CGC just have more zealot fans who WILL overlook any wrong doing by them. Now if this was PGX...*cough* *cough*

Also if this was a defense contractor or something like that it would be major news...CGC is lucky that no one cares about our little hobby..

That was a funny post bro'
Yeah, the CGC getting in bed with other "businesses" is not a preferible way to go about "THIRD PARTY GRADING"
it just puts a rancid taste in peoples mouths.
However, ultimately, we ALL have to come to understand (if not agree and support) that a business is IN business to make money. It's cliche I realize, buts it is fact, and as long as the partnerships don't invlove FRAUD (see CGG/PGA/PGX :x ) and don't have an effect on the grading professionalism and product as a whole, its not that important to me.
We're the average, everyday people to learn about ALL the "partnerships & Deals" between companies in general, or even that for example of none for profit organizations
folks would crap
(take my word for it, i'm a Corporate Attorney
)
So, this addendum will simply state that YES, it bothers me, as does the Wizard crap :x the pressing crap :x and other minor troubles. However, in the end, the product and its place in the hobby/market are well established and accepted. Hence, making it more difficult for this type of news to really hurt them

I love the concept of graded comics, and I think CGC is operating at a level I can trust.
It does take a lot of thieves out of the equation. It has also created a new generation of speculators who try and work the angle between what a book is worth and what they can sell a graded copy for on ebay. Some of these are good people, some aren't.

Yeah we all know that this is a bad move, but my problem is that CGC doesnt understand that it was a bad move. Steve reaction was "Big Deal". He just doesnt get it. This is amateur...CGC should be way past amateur at this point..they just need to hire a PR based on thier PR abilities and not hire one because she is married to a friend...It just doesnt make any sense...Gee she has big T*ts...I bet she would make a great PR person. You would hire a lawyer like that, hopefully, why would you hire a PR person.Peter Parker wrote:Pluto...

They make mistakes, no question, is arrrogance to blame? perhaps a bit, but ultimately I truly don't think any of these guys ever thought this "CGC" idea would ever impact the industry as it has

HIRE the workforce you need so you're not required to handle work you're not skilled for. I truly think they don't want to make that financial investment to do so, but that's just me

to bad e-bay hasn't run all the thieves out of there system!!
cgc needs some stiff competetion and i know nothing about
the other grading companies so i am not sure if they are the
answer!i think it is quite possible that cgc has deals with these
bigger comic shops and with the wizard.yeah it sucks but it's
there concsience not mine.......cgc has also inadvertently taken
the vf/nm to nm- grades and made them almost usless in the 1980's
and up!but thieves there will always be thieves because there will
always be someone willing to sell you or me out for cash!!

well basically it didnt get rid of any theivves it just made them do something else. Currently there is a BB 28 on comiclink that was an 8.0 and not is slabbed with a 9.0. The difference in price on these 2 books is almost 15000.. It appears that the book has been pressed. Now pressing is something that people feel differently about, but CGC doesnt consider it resto. Now people are just tkaing advantage of that little quirk...
