And I can confirm that the Greg Rucka/JH Williams Batwoman arc in Detective comics was superb (and the tpb is about as good looking a book as you could ever buy).
Yeah, Detective was my favorite book every month while that story was going on. I loved the Question 2nd feature in there as well.
And to be fair I'm really enjoying the current arc with imatation Joker's and Batman's. It's nothing special but an enjoyable enough romp!

Only reading Detective Comics right now, and the currect arc is a fun read-thru....

I did pick up Kevin Van Hook's recent Batman Confidential books. Batman vs The Undead.

I have the Final Crisis TPB to go with my Crisis on Infinite Earths and Infinite Crisis set, but havent touched it. Dont think I will.....

I actually enjoyed Final Crisis. I honestly think that the issues with Final Crisis were more about the execution than the story itself. What I mean is that with the Superman Beyond 3D, Final Crisis: Submit, and Batman 682 and 683 being such essential parts of the story, why weren't they just incorporated into the miniseries itself? That just seems like a real *SQUEE* up on the part of DC. Also, of course, is the fact that there were all the delays and artist issues, giving an air of inconsistency to the visuals. I really hate the fact that JG Jones had nothing to do artistically with #7.

Just read the slew of Batman books that came out this week...

Batman #704, the art looked great and decent story

Batman: The Return, wrapped up the whole dead Batman story nicely and could be a decent starting point for the new reader.

Batman Incorporated #1, aside from the gaudy cover the Inc. concept was much more interesting than I expected.

Brightest Day #14, not exactly a Batbook but some fun interaction between Batman (Bruce Wayne) and Deadman, also Batman as a White Lantern for a few pages—will probably be a cool action figure

Superman/Batman #78, great art but the story was a little too cute.

All in all, I’m glad Bruce Wayne is back but it will take a few months to decide how deep I’ll go with the Batbooks beyond Batman and Detective. I’ve already given Batgirl and Red Robin the ax and will probably drop Batman and Robin. I’ll give Inc. and Dark Knight a try but will probably drop the books if they are only mediocre at best. Superman/Batman remains on shaky ground.

Why did you decide to drop Red Robin, if you don't mind my asking? Not that I'm offended or anything, but that's actually one of my favorite books that I get each month. You just pairing it down and not wanting to get too deep in the Batman stuff?

I got Batman 704 and Inc 1. Both pretty enjoyable. I'm not sure about the story thats kicking off in 704 but as you say the art was good and there have been some good moments with Bruce meeting back up with people like Dick and Selina. Inc 1 was ok, I'm not really sure what to think after the 1st issue, definitely going to give it some more time.

Am I right in thinking Detective and Batman are the Di ck books and Inc and Dark Knight are the Bruce ones?

I was going to get The Return as well but at $5 (which somehow works out as £4 in Forbidden Planet) it didn't seem worth it when I flicked through. It seemed like more than half of the book was sketches and script.

Has anyone been reading the Batman 100 page specials that I saw on the shelf? There were 2 issues there (I'm not sure when they came out) but they were written by Ed Brubaker (who I thought was Marvel exclusive). I love Brubaker but at $8 each (I didn't even bother seeing what mental price that translates as) I couldn't stretch to it. If anyone has read them can they let me know if their any good, as they are something I'll be looking out for in future on the cheap.

The other book I got this week was Flash 6 which brought a rather abrupt end to the 1st arc. I think this was resolved a little too quickly and was a little dissapointed. But overall this arc has been ace and I still can't get over how good Manapul's art is, possibly my favourite artist working on a regular book at the moment (although Ryan Ottley is up there).

Long post...

I agree about Flash, but the ending is very...interesting, to say the least and I like how the Future Rogues were given some depth. I agree about Manapaul's work. I didn't care much for his stuff in LEGION but this? Wow.

I'd not read Legion, one of the few DC properties I have never got into big. The future rogues are already a great addition to the Flash mythos and I really hope they come back at some point in the future. Damn, I just want to see a massive ruck between the current day rogues and the future rogues, don't even need the Flash!

Indeed, its more about trying to spend less each month. I've adopted the position that if I buy a monthly, the comic must be a favorite read or a comic that I've been reading for a long time and I foresee still wanting it in my collection years from now.

With Red Robin, the series has been good, but I was only reading it because I expected it to have more to do with Bruce Wayne's return. Now that Bruce is back, my assumption that the book will be more like the pervious Robin title.
