Re: Discuss The DC Relaunch
Since I went "all in" on both Flashpoint and also buying the new 52, I am both excited about the relaunch and overwhelmed by the Flashpoint event. So many books in such a short amount of time; i've almost hit complete burn-out.
But the thing is, the Flashpoint books have been fun. Not the greatest reads ever for sure...but it's been fun for me to support my LCS, going every week getting the new crossover books, the pins that were associated with them, just shooting the $#1t with the shop and stuff. It's the first time i've been happy reading new comics since the 90's
The only real disappointing "send-off" series that i've read lately though was the "Brightest Day Aftermath: The Search for Swamp Thing." I'm not going to spoil it, but the ending really felt like crud. Lol...

Re: Discuss The DC Relaunch
You are too kind with your words concerning Brightest Day Aftermath. It seems like it was rushed to the point the conclusion didn't make any sense.
Either as a send-off or a Lead-In to the New 52 as indicated by Dido in the Editorial Page of the DC Comics released about 3 weeks ago.

Agreed, most of DCs output since the new universe was announced has been sub par or just plain *SQUEE*.

Re: Discuss The DC Relaunch
They've had most of their top shelf concentrating on their relaunch debut material and even the ones that have been producing through the end were probably pulling double duty so their final material before the relaunch probably suffered. I noticed that Gail Simone didn't handle the last 2 issues of Birds of Prey and the a few other books had completely different creative teams on their final issues.ian_house wrote:Agreed, most of DCs output since the new universe was announced has been sub par or just plain *SQUEE*.

Simple. Time travel doesn't work right now, but in the future it will, so someone from the future went back in time so that it works now. Duh. Why do I have to explain all the complicated stuff?

Re: Discuss The DC Relaunch
So how'd the books go for you?
Trying to avoid spoilers:
Flashpoint #5 - Wasn't expecting too much as the event hasn't really been top quality. It was nice to FINALLY see Thawne involved, as he was meant to be the big bad. First half of the issue (the fight and wrap up of the Flashpoint world) didn't do much for me I've got to be honest. BUT the second half did get me, probably due to it's finality. I've got to be honest it was quite an emotional finale and made me pretty sad.
Justice League #1 - Looked quite pretty, and had a similar design quality to the Blackest Night books which were a cut above other DC titles past and since. There are some great little moments in the book, particularly due to the fact it's characters are meeting for the first time. On the downside it's pretty slow and features only a few of the actual team.
Was Hal always this much of a *SQUEE*?
Both books were $3.99
I think next week will be the real decider on how I like the new DCU. More choice and a better chance to see how the world has actually changed.

Re: Discuss The DC Relaunch
Well I Screwed Up!
When I placed my DCBS order for the 52 I didn't get the sketch variant of Justice League which I could have added for $12.99. Now the cheapest I can find it is $149.00 "BUY IT NOW" or $80.00 auction with 2 days left. ARGGGGHHH!!!!
Ok now to read the books.

Isn't that a 1:200 variant? Are you sure they weren't offering the 1:25 variant for that price?BruceReville wrote:Well I Screwed Up!![]()

Re: Discuss The DC Relaunch
Maybe I was confused but I looked back and in fact the sketch variant was not advertised at all. The Regular - Combo Pack - & 1:25 were advertised. Still my OCD will have to wait. I thought DC said variants would be limited for now or even more limited. Sheesh 1:200 variants are coming out every month now.StarBrand wrote:Isn't that a 1:200 variant? But I read the books and Flashpoint 5 - Rushed, but ended well. I wonder how they are going to play off the fact that Barry remembers everything and who the hell is the chick when Flash fixes everything? Justice League 1 - Decent, but could have been a bit more fleshed out. Felt like I was dropped in the middle and left find my own way. I would have rather called it a Brave and Bold comic than a Justice League - felt more like a Batman title.

So far, it seems most are saying, "good, not great."
For the first issue of a new universe meant to bring in new readers and non-comic fans, it should be unquestionably great.

IF DC out sells Marvel by a considerable bit you can bet your bottom dollar Marvel will do something like it.
