Re: NVU without Magnus and Solar
I hope this incarnation of Valiant includes some dinos at some point. I always loved that about Valiant. The first Valiant comic I picked up was the last chapter of Unity and I was blown away with all the different genre's at play. Still one of my favorite moments is when Aric gets bit in half by the robo-dino (what were they called?) and the good skin comes to his aid.
I was disappointed that Solar and Magnus weren't part of the new universe but at this point I would rather them not be.

Me to. I think the longer Valiant sticks around, the better our chances of seeing them again.Daniel Jackson wrote:I hope that turns out to be the case.caniac wrote:I still have a feeling we haven't seen the last of Solar or Magnus...

Re: NVU without Magnus and Solar
I just can't see Dark Horse letting these characters go. Not any time soon, anyways. As far as I'm concerned, the characters will be missed (especially Solar, for me) but Valiant is better off sticking with their own licensed characters.riprap wrote:I'll miss Solar the most. I liked an all-powerful hero who had that interesting origin story. After X-O, this was my favorite Valiant comic. Warren Simons and company can get creative and give us new, but similar concepts to these three characters. When it comes to Dark Horse selling these guys back to Valiant though, I'm a glass half empty guy. I read an nterview with Simons in the Comic Shop News and it seems like Valiant is going forward, knowing that these characters will not be in their future.

Re: NVU without Magnus and Solar
I am sure that the new Valiant universe is going to be fantastic but I'm hoping that somewhere down the road they could get their hands on Magnus, Solar and Turok. A company wide crossover, like Unity, would be a great way to re-inroduce them. Those characters are dying at Dark Horse.

Dark Horse doesn't own them.myron wrote:+1superman-prime wrote:if the right amount of money comes along DH will sell them

Dark Horse licensed them the same way Valiant licensed them back in the day.
The owner is still Random House (who bought Gold Key).

Bionosaurs. And yeah, that's the panel that hooked me. Re: NVU without Magnus and Solar
After seeing the miserable way the Dark Horse GK relaunch went, it sure looked like they didn't really care about the characters all that much. Don't forget about the Ibooks Magnus either, another total failure. The only real success anyone has had with them is when they were in the original VU. I think DH should cut their losses and let the license go to someone who appreciates the characters.greg wrote:Dark Horse doesn't own them.myron wrote:+1superman-prime wrote:if the right amount of money comes along DH will sell them

Re: NVU without Magnus and Solar
I agree, where's the danger in a character that can't be hurt? But the interesting part is seeing the writer find ways to place him in peril or no-win situations. Plus, that archetype is a great asset as a Deus Ex Machina that can shake up the other titles in ways not possible without him.Elveen wrote:Personally, I don't need Solar. Re: NVU without Magnus and Solar
I'm of two minds on this: Regaining the GK characters would seem almost like too much of a retread ("been there-done that). But introducing new characters falling into those same roles could result in a lot of eye-rolling. I'm torn.superman-prime wrote:if the right amount of money comes along DH will sell them

I would never expect VEI to create some new generic mock-ups of these characters.

So true, hopefully greed wont make em have to sit on a dusty shelf for years again.

Re: NVU without Magnus and Solar
No, but it's very possible they recognize the same strengths these elements brought to the table the first time around and try to fill them with something similar but different.MoonChild wrote:I would never expect VEI to create some new generic mock-ups of these characters.
I've been toying with the idea of a 4001 AD world that looks more like ... dare I say it ... Warriors of Plasm than the North Am of Magnus. A future where tree-hugging cloddies rely on genetically engineered servants rather than robots.
There's potential there. Similar but different. Possible themes: the balance between the needs of man and nature; free will as an expression of mind over the dictates of genetics; gaia and the role of man as the planet's defender against outside forces.

Re: NVU without Magnus and Solar
Maybe Dark Horse can sub-lease the characters to VEI since they have currently have them. Maybe the want lots of $$$ or waiting for an offer from VEI.
Or Random house can sell the characters to VEI.
I do not think Dark Horse will be using any of these characters anytime soon. Or how about a Dark Horse / VEI crossover.
If VEI doest not have any rights to licensing, how was VEI able to reprint the A&A hardcover. Those had Unity issues that included Gold Key characters.
