That being said, I would like to see Valiant make it on the strength of it's own characters the first year. Once they get a good foothold among the fans, THEN spend a lil money leasing the characters from Classic Media.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, if they ever DO bring back the Gold Key characters - do it with NO hype (at first). Make it a HUGE surprise reveal and blow us away! (I doubt this could happen because with the internet, the news will spread like wildfire anyway!).

"I understand. The problem is that at present, we don't really have any work for a robot fighter. Can you type?"
"Not really. But I am very, very good at fighting robots. If you'll just take a look at my resume..."

Re: NVU without Magnus and Solar
Update on this today from Bleeding Cool - it looks like Classic Media may be getting bought by Dreamworks. If that happens, VEI may have made the right decision in building the universe without the Gold Key 3.

Here's a piece about the possible purchase. I didn't realize Classic Media owned so many well known characters. I don't think it really makes any sense for VEI to ever reintroduce the Gold Key characters unless they were able to buy them outright which doesn't look like it would happen.

Re: NVU without Magnus and Solar
VEI does not need Solar, Magnus and Turok. VEI can always come up with something to replace these characters or re-make them similarly.
To deal with Dreamworks will be $$$ just to get these characters. How much will it cost to license the characters or to buy the characters? a few milllion? It'll be hard for VEI to see the return on investment.
VEI can sell 45K of XO#1. The net profit after all expenses is not a lot if you do the numbers. If VEI has to spend $$$ that can potentially bankrupt them if they can't sell the books.
Look at the Dark Key books. Totally didn't live up to its potential.
If I were VEI, I would talk with Dreamworks and inform them that these characters aren't worth anything. Perhaps the will just give it to VEI or sell them for almost nothing.
Its difficult to deal with characters and property because everyone ants to make $$.

Valiant should stay away from Defiant and Broadway they would end up making a mess.geocarr wrote:I disagree. I think that "Fatale", "Powers That Be / Starseed", and Knights on Broadway could be easily and beneficially incorporated into the new VEI universe in ways that could really enhance tightness of a shared universe and continuity. Not so sure about Shadow State though.BruceReville wrote:No they don't and really I think they should stay out of Valiant all together. I rather see those properties on their own as a Shooterverse since they are practically 100% Shooter productsThe Dirt Gang wrote:Does VEI own the Defiant and Broadway characters as well? I loved Warriors of Plasm but not sure how it would work in the Valiant universe.
Now if it was just Defiant and Broadway that might actually work since IMHO Broadway felt more like the second wave of Defiant Universe.
But throwing Valiant/Acclaim, Defiant and Broadway together would be a huge mess.

NVU without Magnus and Solar
It said last they made $376M, so you can only assume they will make similar money this year. Sounds like a good deal for $150Mmagnusr wrote:Wait, do I read that right? I think it was definitely in Valiant's best interest to avoid these characters. I'm with everyone else that if they can't own them outright, they should avoid the hell out of them.davidb wrote:Update on this today from Bleeding Cool - it looks like Classic Media may be getting bought by Dreamworks.
