Re: What video game are you currently playing?
Just beat the final boss in Ratchet and Clank All 4 One with my wife on our first playthrough. The game got horrible reviews, but it's actually pretty fun. My wife and I are Ratchet and Clank junkies, and not having to switch off is a plus since it's a co-op game. It definitely deviates from the traditional Ratchet and Clank game in a not-as-fun way, but it's still really enjoyable.
Our first playthrough I was Nefarious and she was Qwark. I guess we'll go through with Ratchet and Clank on our second playthrough. Looking forward to playing the new digital-only Ratchet and Clank game and then onto the HD remakes of the PS2 games.

Anyway, I've just picked up the first Dead Space game on my brother's recommendation (after him bugging me to play it for about two years running) and am finding it fun. I always run out of ammo and health kits, but I suppose that's what makes that type of game what it is.
I also bash away at Tekken Tag 2 during short idle moments.

How come? Is Gamefly a rental type service, or did you both just hate the game?Brother Darque wrote:i played half of Bioshock: Infinite. i borrowed it from my brother, i had a day to play it because he was going to send back to gamefly the next day.

I'm just about done with Skyrim I think... close to 300 hours into it and level 64 not much left after all the DLC

I decided a while back that I wanted to play all the God of War games through back-to-back start to finish, and now I've officially started on my 'God of War Saga'

I started with GoW: Ascension, which is allegedly the first game in the canon, except having played it all the way through now, I'm fractionally peeved to find that it's actually the second game in the grand sequence of events that is GoW so I have infact, started in the wrong place. Bugger.
It was easily the glitchiest game I've played in a LONG time, but it was still enjoyable once you'd reached the first cutscene (3.5hrs in) and the game had explained itself a bit

So now I've gone back to play the *actual* first game in the series, and even though it's a PSP port, it's still really cool, if a bit basic ^_^

Re: What video game are you currently playing?
Been playing Borderlands 2 for a while now. Got that, the latest CoD and Assassins Creed for Xmas and never started them. I tried both of the other two and they just were not holding my interest. I'm a huge AC fan but III just isn't doing it for me.
Been playing Poker Night 2 since it came out late week. Not a bad poker game especially the dialogue if you like those Gearbox ?? Games. I probably needs a fast play where it is just poker gameplay though so you can rip through the hands.

Right now I'm playing God of War 2, as part of my mighty God of War Saga back-to-back playthrough.
Ironically it's actually the fifth game in the canon

Saw someone compare Thief to Dishonoured on the PS3 the other day, might want to check that out if that's your sort of thing. Never played it so I don't really know if it's a good comparison or not, but hey.Brother Darque wrote:Thief 2: The Metal Age.

Re: What video game are you currently playing?
Yeah, Dishonored is a lot like Thief, though you have the option of not really doing a stealth run through if you make good use of the spells and weaponry, whereas that is not really an option with Thief.
Currently playing Bioshock, I got a combo of Bioshock 1 and 2 plus all the DLC for both for I think it was 20 dollars on Amazon a couple of weeks ago (plus free shipping for some reason). Haven't played that much, interesting universe being created for it, although the gameplay so far seems just kind of so-so.

Re: What video game are you currently playing?
Been playing Borderlands GOTY edition and working on playthrough 2 right now. The game is a lot more challenging than most shooters I've played. You definitely have to have a strategy while working your way through most of the game. I've learned the hard way that when the mission difficulty says hard or impossible, you better listen....
The game is also much bigger than I expected and the enemy AI is done very well. Enemies won't just stand around while you shoot, most will constantly move around and hide behind objects to avoid damage. I like the comic book look of the game and it works very well with the "Tarantino" tone the game sets.
On the disappointing side the characters seem very wooden and bland and the dialogue is reduced to a few sentences here and there. Also, for a whole game that focuses on a goal of "finding a mysterious vault", the ending is an extreme letdown (and rather confusing).

Borderlands is one of my favourite games. But yeah, if the skull appears in next to the enemy's life bar, you really ought to just turn around and walk the other way!

I agree that the characterisation for the playable characters is a bit lacking. I got the impression for the most part that it was a sort of 'self-insert' game. I find that when the main character in first person shooters hardly ever says anything or wears a full-faced mask/helmet (like that bloke in Halo) it's always almost because it's designed as a self-insert type experience. That's what I got from Borderlands anyway.
The end scenario is a bit weird... I gathered that the planet's inhabitants had built up this idea of the vault containing treasure or something fantastic themselves over time, in a Chinese whispers sort of way. The vault became a sort of 'Lost City of Gold' legend, because no-one had found it in so long, and the people of the destitute planet had made it a sort of source of hope to help them get through their daily lives.
But remember, it's called The Vault: It's supposed to keep things in.
When you get to the end of the game it's the only place that you can find the Eridian aliens: They know what's inside the vault, and how important it is that it should be kept locked in there, which is why they guard only that place.
When the player gets to the end of the game, cracks the vault expecting to find treasure and the creature starts coming through, that's when the truth of the matter is revealed.
You don't have to agree I guess, but that's what I got from it.
You liked the comic? I bought it because like I said, I think Borderlands is great and I was really looking forward to the 'prequel' stories, but I didn't find it all that good. It just raised more questions than it answered I thought. I bought it having read the blurb that said "Want to know how they all ended up on the bus at the start of the game?" and I expected that the book would feature a bottleneck type comic for each character, with them all ending up on the bus with the reader knowing why, but that didn't really happen

I wonder that certain details were left out (like in Lilith's comic: It never really explains what a 'Siren' is, or how it's relevant to her as a character apart from that it's responsible for her phase skill, or even how it affects the world/universe [there are only 7 sirens in the universe if I remember rightly]) because they'll be addressed in later games, and possibly later fiction...
To read the comics as stand-alone reads I enjoyed the book, but I felt it just didn't link strongly enough to the game for my liking

On another note, I enjoyed the original Bioshock, but could just never get into the second one. My brother played it, and said that it was a really long game... He said he thought he'd reached the end about four times whilst he was playing it, and then the game continued again... Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing. I couldn't get on with it though. Love the setting though, very stylish and enjoyable

Deadpool: If you enjoy ridiculous humour, then it's the perfect game for anyone. The number of times I laughed out loud at the completely nonsensical wtf moments...

Re: What video game are you currently playing?
I didn't even know there was a Borderland comic book, but I guess it doesn't surprise me to hear that they've made one.
As far a Bioshock, I've played both games and really enjoyed them. I felt that the story in the second one wasn't as interesting as the first, but still good. I also didn't care for playing as a Big Daddy. It made the gameplay a little awkward and constricting compared to the first. I haven't got around to playing Infinite yet, but it's on my list.

Just started Arkham Asylum yesterday. This game is soooooo good. Especially considering I only paid $5 for the PSN version with all of the DLC.
