It's clear from box office totals that people are still interested in comic book characters. At least there's still that.

I'm around, but I don't check in regularly. To address your points: What I was getting at is that Solar was only acting normal when it was convenient. The second things didn't go the way he liked, he didn't hesitate to abuse his powers. The impression I got was that he went to Harbinger to get some ...

i really think that the movie will do as well as the trailer allows them-if it's a great trailer, people will go see it. Fade in. A happy teenage couple lounge around on a bed, and the male turns his head toward the female. She smiles, but he looks serious. "Khris, there's something I've got t...

Deathmate was my "Gateway Drug" into VALIANT, so I'm very fond of it. :thumb: Not much of a drug. There ought to be a drug you could take that would make you forget Deathmate. There ought to be a way of both forgetting about it AND getting the time and money back that was wasted on Deathm...

One advantage of a team book is that it gives readers multiple characters to latch on to. Don't like Superman? He's not the only guy in JLA. Don't like Radioactive Man? Songbird's on the Thunderbolts too. It's also a way to bring in other readers: Like Captain America? He's in Avengers too, so you m...

Boy is that ever a problem. Over the years, I've tried six or seven times to organize the collection, so it's incredibly haphazard. Most things are still in the bags that they were taken home from the store in. Some are in boxes, some of the ones in boxes are properly [that is, individually] bagged,...

Heh. That's what I get for not using the search feature.

But reading the earlier thread... Am I being too harsh here? I mean, sure, the spirit of a story is important, but it's also important to have the details gel well too, isn't it? I just didn't get that here.

Solar #3

I'm starting with 3 because it's the earliest Solar in my collection. Not because I'm weirdly arbitrary, although I can be that from time to time. Anywhoo... We open with Solar apprehending a couple of criminals, destroying the living crap out of their car in the process and welding them inside. The...

Could be referring to the continuation of the title, with Bucky replacing Steve Rogers. So, Cap is dead, but Bucky is not? A few years ago, there was a whole big storyline that introduced the "Winter Soldier". The idea was that, when Bucky got all explodey-ed, he didn't die, but was captu...

1) Harbinger
2) X-O
3) Solar

I never really liked "Superman"-like god characters until I read Solar. But really, those are the three titles that, to me, are the Valiant universe.

I liked the ending to the Malev war. It was the event for the future-set books, and it's conclusion was satisfying. Victory didn't come cheap, and you got the sense that the other characters were really pushing themselves, especially with Magnus killing Rai. Not everyone made it, and no one was goin...

Just saw this article on CNNMoney (Mainly about Marvel Comics) Comic Books are Alive and Kicking Interesting article. What is that last part referring to though? Is Steve Rogers coming back? So you're advocating a total reboot, then? Absolutely. I figure a lot of the people that would be interested in Valiant are like me -- I got into it when X-O started up. Not quite in at the birth with Magnus, but not that far off. I loved everything, but started to flake out around Chaos Effect and...

Imagine if VEI could do a series on HBO. How cool would that be. And I don't even have HBO. Given HBO's track record and the tone of Valiant characters, the fit is pretty much perfect. If you wanted to market comic books as a serious medium, that would really grab people's attention. How depressing...

We begin with Harbinger. It's the most logical place to start, given the movie buzz. I'd begin with Harada, telling the story from within the Harbinger Foundation. With modern storytelling, the rift between Harada and Pete would take more time to develop. You'd start off with a "Oh my God! The ...
