I'm both relieved and annoyed by the price. Relieved because I had an internal struggle for days about whether or not to make a serious go at this book. And if I was going to go for it, I was going to put up 1500. Ultimately I decided I don't have the cash right now.

A sale such as this has ONLY positives. My brother gets the money he needs. CF gets a donation. And a lucky Valiant fan or two gets to own a very rare and special board project comic that they may have never before had the opportunity to own. It's ALL good.

Yeah, I would love to have them. But, when he states in his auction that he can't afford to donate more than 25% to CF, that's because he can't. Without getting too deep into his business, I'll just say that he's not exactly overflowing with cash. (I know, who is right?). But, the point is, I know ...

He stopped, I didn't. But, anyway, that's when he bought these books. From Ebay , and seemingly from the original owner.

This is my favorite part of the auctions:

The seller "can not afford" to donate the money they are going to get for these...even ...

I had really wanted that Magnus 0 9.8, I would have even taken the signed one. But alas, I think I was the second highest bidder on both.

If he really wanted to win, and he was willing to go 1998, then he should imagine that someone else might go 2000. So, he should have put in a ...

I wonder if there was some shill betting going on here. Why bid 1998? It would seem that if that bidder wanted to win, they would have bid 2001, instead, it looks like they just wanted to jack up the price in case someone had in fact bid at least 2000.

I've never bought off a board member before. So, what happens now? Do I just sit back and wait for XOmatic to PM me with specific instructions on shipping costs, paypal address, etc.

I'm still satisfied with the prices... otherwise I would not have offered them. But, I did offer them under the idea that I would be outbidding the next highest bidder... not just making a higher offer. Yet, both my bids are now the winning prices. Did someone else really bid 179 on the Magnus 12 ...

By the way... how exactly was the auction working? Did it work like ebay, where you could put in a bid of 500 bucks and just keep being a dollar better than the next highest bid. So that if the next highest was 50, you'd win it for 51. Or would you win it for the full 500?

AND... I also put in the bid of 60 for magnus 1 9.8.
